Gurkha Doko Challenge South – held annually in June
The Gurkhas are soldiers from Nepal who have been recruited into the British Army for over 200 years. They are renowned for their fearlessness in combat, loyalty, and professionalism.
This event is based on part of the Gurkha selection process in Nepal. The famous Doko run that recruits have to complete is a tough and gruelling individual effort. Running up steep inclines and steps in the hills close to the British Army camp in Pokhara, they have to carry 15 kg in a Doko basket and cover 5.8 km in less than 46 minutes.
The GWT Doko Challenge sees participants running alongside the ‘Bravest of the Brave’, over a 5 km cross-country course through Wimbledon Common. Runners carry a 15 kg weighted Nepali Doko basket on their backs.
This event raises vital funds for The Gurkha Welfare Trust.
