The CA was formed to ensure that the unique spirit, tradition and camaraderie of the commandos does not fade but is kept alive for future generations. Membership is open to all ranks that have earned the coveted Green Beret and have served or are serving. Associate membership is open to families and friends.

In 2024 the CA gained Charitable Status in England and Wales and is currently working with The International Commando Heritage Trust to gain Charitable Status in Scotland.
