The Belgian National Defence Cross Country Championships {Every December}

18th December 2024

The Belgian Special Operations Regiment (SOR) proudly traces its origins back to Achnacarry, Scotland in1942. After the end of the war Belgian commandos returned home to set up base in Marche Les Dames. The rocky, wooded, river valleys were ideal for teaching commando skills.

Now based in Heverlee near Brussels, the SOR consists of two Parachute-Commando battalions, and a Special Forces Group. The centre delivers training for parachutists and commandos. Each year they host the country’s cross-country championships, with teams competing from France, Germany and other NATO forces. It’s a challenging 9.6 km trail race around the area used in their own training. It’s open to serving military and veterans.
